I have found that the slightly longer wheelbase than our old SJ has caused us to get beached due to the ramp breakover angle! Climbs do seem easier though with the longer wheelbase but longer still would be better in that respect. Like every vehicle, they have their pluses and their minus'.
Have you not gone down the Rocklobster route yet Jason? It will give you lower ratios on the road assisting with getting up to speed and over 50mph.
We've been running 205/80/16's for a while and did not have a problem with 60mph with the old transfer box or the Rocklobster!
Darthloachie - our cage has had a few encounters with trees but I have begun to use it as such intentionely a bit now as if you plan to rub it you don;t slide down into it with a donk, potentially bending the cage! I have a bar under my rear windows which I have used but note you don't have - might be a worthy addition?

Im finding it too easy to throw money at it to make it more and more capable. we have a number of places that we go to on Salisbury plain that are literally only designed for tracked vehicles ... and the jimny is able to ride between the rutts created by the tracks.

We do have side bars but the are fitted lower down to improve the strength of the cage between the rocksliders and the vertical tube going to the rear of the
chassis.
Might get them re welded higher up so we can fit bigger wheelarches

I had seen them lower down but I have big marks on my cage on the bar just under the window which your bar would not have caught and it would have been the body instead - similarly, you should see that state of my wheel arches as I don;t have the bar you have!
Wheelarches are cheaper than body though and just clip on!
Just a thought to prevent you having expensive damage caused!

Know what you mean, however my jimny already has an extensive collection of dents - both front wings, both rear panels, both doors, rear door and even one on the roof!! - even with the bars by the wheel arches we still manage to fetch the right rear wheel arch off at most trips off road - usually by the tyre when flexing! = out with the self tappers and the cable ties!

Ah! Cable ties - I'm a bit famous for liking the use of them!
I want to fit bigger/more aggressive tyres but don't want to start ripping the car apart with them - what are you running?

31 10.5 15 Insa special tracks which I believe are slightly oversize at nearer 32"
when new - they do catch on full articulation but if you go slowly they just go clunk clunk clunk on inside edge of the wheel arch extension - thinking of moving the side tubing up so I can fit oversize landrover arches on like adamjimny has

I'm looking forward to it ... having a gander at everyone elses trucks is as exciting as off roading as they're are not that many Jimny's about in the grand scheme of things and seeing them in the flesh is always better than on the interweb or in magazines.
Everyone has little details that they have done to their trucks that they don;t necessarily see worth mentioning but to others are fascinating.
You can get inspiration for new mods and see what does and does not work and what you could have done better along with what you are pleased you did differently to others.
Just need to get that magic MOT - which should be coming tomorrow if they get the right CAT in tomorrow! They got the wrong one in today and that is all that stands in the way of the magic green and white piece of paper!

Would love to get a rocklobster fitted... money isnt the issue, its finding the correct bits to give to Rob Storr. Even trying to contact him direct I have been unsucessful to ask if he has any off the shelf.... Then I would have to fit the damn thing and I just donot have the time.
As much as I would HATE to, I fear a Landrover is probably the only way forward as things are so much more readily available and cheaper... plus there are loads of specialists out there, and I can have a V8... time for a beer I fear !!

You can try Rob at offroad armory as he will sell complete off the shelf - I think you just have to supply the props see below
