Leaking swivel and droning noise was created by paradox1001
Hi guys
Last couple of days I’ve started noticing a slight droning noise from the front left
Suspected it may be the wheel bearing starting to go.
I’ve just taken a quick look underneath and the swivel is leaking an oily/greasy residue
What is likely to need replacing?

Kingpins and if it's noisy possible wheel bearing. All how to guides available in wiki.

Thanks for the reply

I have no steering shake at all and it leaks without been driven
So could it still be kingpins?

I completely cleaned it up and this is how it looked after 30 mins

This is how it looks after a 5 mile drive
Can the oil get to the wheel bearing and wash the grease out?

The kingpin bearing kits come with a new axle oil seal, might as well just change the whole lot if you're going to have to open it all up anyway

Yep. Its axle oil. Kingpins and wheel bearings need done. Leak will be from the axle oil seal, depending on whats failed will affect the leak. I would guess wheel bearing gone as that sags and puts off centre pressure onto the oil seal creating the leak. Doesnt neccesarily make major noise or steering wobble when gone.

Wheel bearings need a special tool to get out and a press to remove/fit. I just removed the whole front hubs and took to a garage to get the bearings swapped. £10 in their hand and away i went :-)

Dont overdo the grease as it will clog the vac lines in the hubs. Kingpin bearings & axle oil seal are easy on-the-driveway stuff with basic tools. The Wiki guide is brilliant help.

Bigjimny shop is a handy place to get spares ;-)

If there's a droning noise it's the wheel bearing, which needs the use of a good press and the tool.

As has been said, you may as well change the King Pin bearings whilst it's that far apart.
