rear diff to front? was created by panosd
Hello, i am thinking of installing a rear complete diff (with casing) to the front of my jimny.
I have vvt diffs and i think they are the casing of front and rear is he same.
Has anyone test it?
If this can be done i will then fit also a rear arb locker at front with trail gear hd shafts and cv's.

Surely this WILL NOT work as the rer axle has different shafts to the front (aka CV's) and I thought the Diff itself was different.
Brakes will probably be different too, as will be shocker mounts ... surely they are a whole lot different???

Maveric i dont want to mod the rear axle to fit at front.
I want to fit the rear diff only (3rd member) to the front axle case.
I think that the vvt's diffs have different size- design from the older jimny one.
I can't at the moment strip down both axles and try it, so i wondered if anyone had tried it, or has diffs down to check it.
In samurai's for example you can fit rear diff at front. It matches perfect. A friend of mine tried it and now has 2 rear arbs's on
and HD axle shafts and cv's.( already from the diff swap 26spline at front).
Also the rear diff is stiffer than the front one.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

You will have to try it.
On a pre-vvt, the drive flange is low on the front diff, and central on the rear, this might not matter with a lift, and the front halfshafts won't go in a rear diff.
No idea about a VVT.

why bother? the arb diff kit for the front is near enough the same price as the rear?

After all this time of people fitting rear side gears to front arb diffs you reckon all they needed to do was order a rear arb diff for the front! Have you tried to fit it to the axle casing yet? Does it fit?

At the last diff pic you can see the slight trim to fit the crown in the housing. The same thing must be done to the axle housing to fit.
All holes are fit 100%.
The diff works. My friends car partisipated at a trial race with no problem. Its also his daily to work car.
