The idiots don't see the camera, lets face it half of them don't even see the vehicle.I'm taking on board what you are all saying but as I Yorkshire man who is tight enough to squeak when I walk I have been looking at the offers on amazon. 49.99 for 1080p front and vga rear with a Sony sensor is attractive, yes it's not streaming but equally in the event of needing it it's not too difficult to retrieve from a card. It also occurred that half the time just being able to warn the idiots they are on camera is enough to make them think twice. Or am I missing the point and the more expensive ones are actually better vfm?

I don't think I've ever used the phone app with my dashcam. It's so easy to remove the exterior mounted SD card and plug it into my pc. The Nextbase PC app is superb, showing the video together with google maps type location map simultaneously. In fact today I took the SD card indoors to copy the files of someone going through a red light yesterday, but backed out of sending them in to my local constabulary cos they recorded me approaching the lights at 31mph in a 30!

Personally I'm not fussed with GPS on a dashcam, as in I don't want the feature. Certainly don't want to pay for it...
Image quality is paramount though.
It's amazing how hard it is to read a number plate on a video. So it needs to be high quality video, but not just the resolution. The compression and the lens quality all contribute to this. I'd recommend trying to find some sample footage of any you are looking at.
I'm on the lookout for a new one, as my old one has gone faulty.
