Gear grinding was created by Maxthemelon
Hi all!
So I've noticed that my car has been making some gear grinding sounds while driving along but it doesn't seem to be in the usual way . I've got a 2021 model, manual, and as Im driving along (every time after I start the car for a drive and within 200m) I get the sound of gears grinding and then after a short time it sounds like a gear clicks into place and I feel it clunck. This happens every time.

It doesn't seem to correlate with a specific gear that I'm in, speed that I'm going or whether the clutch is pressed or not. While it is making that noise I can move up or down through the gears without any issues and pressing the clutch doesn't seem to help. It feels like, while it's making the sound, the gear I'm in is still engaged and I'm able to drive normally and then something just clunk's into place. This all seems to be happening along side what feels like driving normally. No slipping of gears, no high revs, it's feels fine at the time (bar the clunck)

Anyone had any experience with this? I'm not car savvy but I think this is a pretty good explanation of what is happening.
Cheers

If you try to engage and disengage the 4x4 before you start driving, and find that the sound does not appear if you do so before starting your trip, it might be something with the front axle vacuum hubs not completely releasing or with the transfer case.

A teacher I had at school 40 years ago complained his car made nasty sounds from the wheels. Found that some of his students had put pebbles in the hub caps of his beetle. :)

A 2021 model should be under warranty so I suggest you take it back to the dealer.

Lads, I think Yakuza is right the clunk could be the 4x4 and vacuum system.

This is a warranty claim. It shouldn't be making any of the noises you described.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. I'll try this before my next drive and see what happens!

Will be doing this for sure as well. Just wanted to go in with some possibilities in my head as the suzuki guys where I live aren't the greatest.

6 years /150.000 kms here in the Netherlands. (But that's pocket money compared with our Honda CR-V... 10 yrs / 250.000 km).

It appears that the local dealer here has the largest Jimny collection for sale in the country; new and pre-used. And they're in business for more than 30 yrs. They must be okay. But I don't go there with my oldie. Too expensive for me.
