Hello team,

How's it all going? I would like to introduce myself as the newest member of Big Jimny

I have just acquired, with a friend, a 2008 Jimny with the 1.3 petrol engine....... it's got a hell of a lot of miles and as a result it's constantly smoking and burning oil. I'm on the lookout for a new engine.

It's great to get in on the cult that is the Suzuki Jimny, as I have heard plenty about them in the past.

I'm aiming that this will be a relatively slow burn winter project car as I currently have a few other projects on the go. My Clio 172 track car is nearing ready for paint and re-assembly, and I have a yet to arrive 2005 Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged that needs a little TLC.

That said, I do plan on cleaning down the Jimny and making mechanical inspections along with removing the currently bust engine.

P.S. What kind of money for one of those engines... or should I rebuild what I have?

Cheers guys..

Welcome to the forum. A new motor isn't massively expensive but in your situation most people think about the 1.6 version out of the swift etc. There's plenty of information on this site but basically it is a long block swap so quite simple.

Hi, welcome to the forum....

You can find 1300 engines for a few hundred pounds, if you are lucky you might find one that has been removed for an upgrade..... Mine was mint at 70k and I let it go for £50 as a partially stripped full engine...

Fitting a 1600 is another option and as stated, quite a simple conversion. Have a look through the forum for examples.....

The only real advice is to consider the end game,  if you think your going to like the car and keep it, fit the 1600..... It's the engine they should have....
