Looking around the suggestion is that this can happen if you install onto a Windows 10 system that has some broken files in it.

I guess it could also be the firewall, although you say it stops all web access which is more consistent with the first item apparently.

To check the file system, open a Command Prompt with Admin privileges and type in " SFC /scannow "

Thanks Martin. I will try what you suggest.

As a point of interest. Is there a port number that should be open on the firewall so that I can check it on McAfee.

The standard port is port 80 (should be open for both TCP and UDP)

Ran SFC/scannow and it said corrupt files found and successfully repaired. So ready to have another go.

I have set up ready to copy files into wwwroot folder but before I do so, can I just check wwwroot properties....and sharing.

Properties are showing as read only. Is this ok?
Sharing....As computer split between admin and 2 users do I need to add Roger as a user?

I will also double check that McAfee has Port 80 open as advised.

Sorry about this Martin, its been a long time since I did any computer stuff.

No problem

read only should be fine.

Sharing - it should have set them to IIS Users automatically.

If you have two users PLUS admin, make sure all the installation and copying etc is done from the Admin account.

Have made sure all okay but McAfee only show Web server Port 80 as TCP/IP - no mention of a UDP port.

Yes, all installation etc done from administrator account.

Internet Explore still saying INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND

Its driven me nuts so I will try and walk away for now.

Just as I was walking away....I tried one last time and got a different message when typing localhost/ in browser

HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorised

Something to do with not having permission because of the ACL (access control list) configuration or encryption settings for the resource of the web server.

Back to the drawing board for something different to try perhaps later.

This is positive news as 401.3 is a message from the IIS software, so that is installed and running. This now a permission problem,

Did you type in just "localhost" (which will not work) or localhost/iisstart.htm  which should

At this precise moment I am pleased to say that
HTTP://localhost/isstart.htm will open up the Windows IIS Welcome Page.

So tomorrow morning, I will recopy the CD files into the wwwroot folder and
hopefully........watch this space.
Thanks Viv

Ok..almost there....hopefully

The files have been transferred and are all now in the wwwroot file

I have tried both http://locahost/top.html and http://localhost/top/toppage.html

Both generate the HTTP Error 404.0 not authorised.

I have checked permissions and sharing exactly as for wwwroot.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thankyou
