I've seen on Facebook that a couple of people in Australia have swapped the stereo out for Android head units, but not sure on how well integrated they are in terms of steering wheel controls etc.
Although the standard unit is adequate, I'd love to replace it with something like a Sony XAV-AX205DB, as I really really want a volume knob, the steering wheel rocker just doesn't do it for me!

I also found that the generally more useable replacement for Google Play Music, You Tube music, doesn't work at all when you don't have cellular reception. So in some parts of South Africa you have to drive in silence (or static).
Come on Vic. Not that bad. There are always radio stations available in all parts of our country. Maybe your home radio station is not everywhere avalable.
Just press search on radio. You will be pleasantly surprised to the number of stations it find.
Never have had a silent moment driving from cape town to messina or from Upington to durban and all corners off the beaten track inside SA and believe me I have been to extreme off grid places in the bush all over our country

If it is an Android head unit you might be able to do one of the following:
- Swap out the whole firmware for a standard Android image. Although you might have problems getting the drivers and software for the steering wheel controls.
- You could hope that the dealer issues a fix or could request a fix.
- You could try the UK way of muting the radio.
- My Android head unit (after market in a Gen 3) remembers the volume level. There is a setting to remember or reset to default in System settings.
- If the operating system allows it you could download an App that sets the volume or download and install an automation app, I use Tasker on my head unit to launch apps that don't auto launch. I bet Suzuki has locked this down to stop you installing 3rd party apps.
Or as others have said just Google an Android replacement that works with the steering controls, there is bound to be one.
