Hi, is it possible to have a front camera (in addition to a genuine parts rear camera kit) that displays on the head unit ?

I have a Gen 3 with front and rear cameras in to one input, the reverse camera input. It uses a relay to switch the feeds over and a couple of diodes to activate the input into the head unit/display.

I also added a timer IC (NE555) so if I go into reverse, I get the reverse camera and then when I come out of reverse it gives me 6 seconds of forward camera.

Plus I have a switch on the dashboard that lets me switch on the forward camera.

I would be happy to send you the circuit if you want to try it out?

Very interested also. Would you be willing to share it again?

Sorry guys, I must speak on the side of caution!

In the Gen 4, the Bosch Infotainment System Head-Unit mates perfectly with the Genuine UK/EU/JA Suzuki Reversing Camera Kit and gets its firmware regularly updated by the Dealers.

Martin, your turn!

I would not upset the system be introducing any 12v accessories into an existing self contained lo-voltage camera system!

This is the circuit I used to combine front and rear cameras on a Gen 3 fitted with an Xtrons (Android Head Unit) and AV cameras. It might not be suitable for the factory fit unit on a Gen 4.

I haven't shown the NE555 circuit details it was a module I bought, although the circuit is well known. The trigger input is positive edge triggered and I wanted negative edge, so I passed it through a capacitor and resistor to generate the correct signal on the negative edge. I can detail this if you are interested.

In operation, go in to reverse, the reversing lights signal fires the relay and connects the AV output of the camera to the Xtrons AV input and also provides 12V to the Xtrons reverse camera input so the head unit switches to the camera display.

When I come out of reverse, the NE555 activates the front camera and provides 12V to the Xtrons reverse camera input. Since the relay now drops out the AV signal from the front camera is fed to the Xtrons unit and it displays the front camera. After 5 seconds or so the NE555 times out and the front camera goes off, the Xtrons display goes back to normal.

If I switch the dashboard front switch on this powers the front camera and also sends 12V to the Xtrons to say there is a camera to display. Since the relay is not activated the front camera is displayed.

If the front camera is displayed by either the switch or by the NE555 timer and I go back in to reverse the rleay changes and I get the reverse camera.

It now means I get the rear camera when I reverse and then when I go forwards I get 5 seconds of front camera. I can also have the front camera on at any time, handy to see the pot hole/ditch the front is about to go in to when off road, until the mud covers the camera.

I have a 3 way camera in mine that shows: forward, reverse and in cabin but not on the infotainment system.
I am located in the Philippines so a left hand drive Suzuki Jimny GL, with the 2.5" monitor top left corner of the windscreen.
