I was told earlier this week that a hybrid model is being worked on and will available in a year or so.

Hybrid is just a stop gap for many manufacturers just so they can reduced the emissions to meet the tightening regulations. You end up with an electric assisted vehicle, but only for a few miles, that spends most of its real life lugging empty batteries around consuming more fuel than the none hybrid version. However you can claim it's efficient during the "e assist phase", that's all that matters to get it past the regulations. Nothing to do with saving the planet etc. That's why hybrids are also included in the government "not for sale" in 2035 plan.
I would have hoped they would go full electric, whatever that may entail.
I am going to get a horse, 4 X hoof drive, 48 inch lift kit, stability control, self driving (from pub) and amphibious, what's not to like.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

An engine upgrade is inevitable, the recipe [design] just too good not to exploit.

I predict a hybrid model and a full EV with little or no change to the aesthetics.

I’ll be happy to rumble and sway till my dying day.

See what I did there? Bit of poetry. Just saying:0)
