Depends on what else is wrong with it overall. You won't buy much of a car to replace it for £500 plus the scrap value of the jimny. If £500 gives you a good jimny it could be worth it.
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Haynes manual and a set of tools is all anyone needs.

Be sure that the head is actually refurbished and not just the gasket replaced as you need to ensure the oilways are cleaned out. Also that the causes are checked (blocked radiator, collapsed cooling hoses etc.) otherwise it will happen again.
