I put mine through the middle of the bonnet, about 3/4 of the way back. It's out of harms way and gets a good ground plane.

I've got a small mag mount that I've used up until now with no problems, takes a lot to knock it off when placed in the middle of the roof. But I managed to buy a tailgate/spare wheel mount bracket from a guy on eBay, they pop up from time to time. He makes them for all sorts of different vehicles so if you can't find a jimny one, find one for something else and give him an email to see when they will be available next. I can't remember the guys ebay name but he has the similar mounts listed for various different trucks.
