How well do the newer twin cam engines respond to being tuned? Eg can the ecu be mapped to get more horses with an air filter and back box or are they already somewhere near the most they have to give?

One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.

From what I've read, there's not much left to get!

Air filters seem to be the only thing people change. Along with maybe a back box.

Ok. Don't get me wrong its not horrible by any means but it doesn't like overtaking, not like mothers roomster. Oh well it's not the end of the world. Cheers.

The Jimny is a tall car with a small engine, an extra gearbox and big tyres. It saps a lot of power, especially at higher speeds. If you want it to go quicker the easiest mod is an engine swap.

Ooh no its far too new for that it's not had it's first mot yet. Like I said it's not that bad it was just a case of seeing if it would give a bit more relatively easily but it seems not so it can stay as it is. If the need for Speed gets too bad I can always borrow one of the other cars to get it out of my system.

There's no replacement for displacement, except fapping great turbos, but for the best bang for your buck (whilst keeping it reliable) then look for an engine conversion. Plenty of the guys on here have 1.6 fitted, I'm sure they will describe the benefits they have found. I must say though the jimny is never going to be the best car for over takes :P good fun on a wet roundabout with mud tyres though :P

I'd seriously consider it as a second car and use a more suitable one for daily traffic light drag starts. ;)

Do it right - use Hammerite

Given that the jimny has relegated the defender to the position of second car I will live with it as it is.

My view - If you want you and your Jimny to travel long distances with comfort, power, good handling, no death wobble and with a friend or three and their bags.. ... .... Buy a trailer! :silly:  :silly:

I think he means a trailer to put the Jimny on! Our Range Rover is faster towing a 2 ton car on a trailer than the Jimny is on its own...
