Corroded bolts was created by Bendywagon
Bought my jimny two months ago and found that I need to replace king pins. Got the parts and everything was going fine until I needed to remove the backing plate behind the disk. Tried the other method of going at it from the rear, but all the bolts are completely corroded on both the retainer seal and the backing plate. I'm unable to remove them, and this means that so far I am unable to do the work needed. I am new to being a jimny owner and new to this site. Hope that someone out there can help me?!

Where are you located some one may be on here thats in your area that could help

Best tip i could give is to use good 6 sided sockets not 12 sided ones and soak every thing and if in dought try to get some heat on it i use a blow torch that i got from a plum center that plummers use for soldering there pipe work

Do you mean the circle of bolts with the arrows?

Attachment kingpinhousing.jpg not found

To remove the hub and change the kingpin you only need remove the steering link, brake calliper and undo the ring of bolts (only 2 are marked with arrows) remove the big dust seal, then undo the 8 bolts marked X and pull the kingpins out.

(You don't mess with the backplate, unless it is something to do with that new fangled ABS that newer cars have  )

The swivel hub will pull off with the driveshaft still in, although we usually take off the freewheel hub and remove the CV joint circlip to get the driveshaft out and clean it.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
