Timing belt or chain for twin cam. was created by wanderinstar
I was talking to someone the other week and he was in the process of fitting a timing belt to a single cam motor. He said that because I had the twin cam I would not have to change a belt as it had a chain fitted. Is this correct? As it seems a bit of a retrograde step, going back to a chain.

Unless the car says "Vauxhall" on the back a chain will outlive the rest of the car: we had 270,000 miles on a Jaguar without ever messing with the chain.

You are forever messing with a rubber band, and you don't get away with just the band: oh no, needs new idler rollers, tensioners, water pumps............

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
