The only water ingress Ive had is though the join in the seal on the rear door... not a lot, but enough to stain the carpet. another time I had the rear seats removed and I realised the seat mounts went all the way though the bodyshell ... aside from that.. dry. (make sure the heater is switched off to)

Ive never had electrical issues, mainly because I always jetwash and then WD40 all the electrics under the bonnet after an outing. I guess this has built up a later of oily dusty mud that waterproofs !!.

One issue I did have though, the headlights will fill up if driving through prolonged deep water, and if its the dirty silty stuff I find on Salisbury Plain, it settles out inside the headlight units then it blocks the radiator up.

Never had an issue with the swivel joints yet. after 70,000 miles, im just about to replace the kingpins and the wheel bearings

I went deep wading in the landrover once at a p&p site.
Back in my yoof it was. Anyway there was this mudhole that a couple of boys got towed out of.
"I can get through that" I think, so off I chug.
Near the middle, it stopped moving, this was when I realised that it was floating, so the wheels weren't on the ground. After a while, enough muddy water got in for it to sink to the bottom, and I chugged out.

Hooray! applause!

The next time I went out in it:
I turned on the heater, fan was seized
I tried the screen wash, pump was seized
The ignition light stayed on, and the alternator was shrieking, full of mud, and the bearing was seized.
I had washed out under the bonnet, and removed the headlights to tip the water out on the day.

Nowadays if there is a muddy hole, or deep water, I go round it ;)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

These days, Im usually the one in front ... the thinking with my mates being if I can get through, they can .. however on a few occasions, the jimny has been known to swim its way across, where a heavier disco / 90 has bogged its self into the mud and needed recovery :)B)

I remember being impressed by a Scottish dealer principle demonstrating a P38A Rangie when they first came out. They put a set of BFGs on it as their demo and came up to an off road school site for a try out the day after is was registered. Drove the right way through the water splash no problem then turned round and came back and were about half way when the bow wave went over the bonnet and the enging stopped. It was funny how it bobbed up to the surface then slowly started to sink again as the water went in through the door seals. the fuses started popping and they couldn't open the windows to get out. It was recovered to the "shore" with headlights half full of water. Aparently they transported it back to the dealership empied the water out of the engine and left it 3 days in the paintshop oven. It was "punted" through a sister dealership "darn sowff" I wonder who the unlucky sod was who bought it!!

I've had mine over the bonnet and parting round the windscreen! All without a snorkel.
I wouldn't do it for prolonged periods but i have done it a handful of times and regularly upto the top of the bumper.
I've seen a couple properly dunked and the only seal that poses a problem is the back door where it will start to leak in eventually.
I usually wait for others to have a go first to guage the depth. Locally theres a site with a hidden ledge in a big lake, the regulars know its there and newbies get told to stay out of it. If you drop a wheel off it your only option is to stop and wait for help, movement in either direction will see you sucked in further and usually submerging one side!

As for waterproofing - i give everything a liberal coat of good old WD40(or other lubes with water displacing properties) before going out. The old trick we all used to do BITD too was to use an old plastic sack like a fertiliser bag and cover the grille over to stop the fan sucking water through.
