Oil change(s).... was created by Back in Black
I have just changed the engine, gearbox, transfer box and diffs oil, and as my 11 year old daughter would say OMG!!

What a difference fresh oil makes!! It's like a new car. Spark plugs next.....

Not all good news though, whilst struggling about underneath I noticed I definitely need a new back box and quite a bit of Wagtail damage to various dangling down bits. Need some protection down below (oh err). Also must sort the rear towing things - one took a beating/bending at wagtail. Need a proper tow/recovery bar.

My mate knocked up a couple of rear recovery points that clamp to the rear chassis leg and they are spot on. Or i think you can buy one in the shop on here.

Thanks for that I'll check the shop out.

At wagtail someone had a bar across the rear with D's on either end, which I presume is also attached to the chassis.

Yep that's the sort of thing, is it attached to the towing points or chassis proper? Ideally I'd like something similar with the D's and a removeable tow hook.

There's no need to say sorry. It wasn't your fault I a) got stuck and b) wasn't prepared AND you did get me out (thank you for that). If I had proper recovery points you'd have had an easier time getting me out.

is a proper towbar attached to the chassis
it also has a plate welded between the two arms going back to the chassis so it can be used to mount a rear winch
there are more piccies of it here

I use a tow bar as my rear recovery point with a dirty great metal ring welded to it proper which still allows me to attach my tow ball for the future when I plan to tow a camping trailer rather than carry the weight in the motor!

I put it nose down a rather steep bank recently and got winched out backwards off it and it didn't flinch!

Excellent - thank you for the feed back. Mrs Black in Black has "offered" to buy me a rear tow bar for my birthday (she just doesn't know it yet  ) - I'm browsing ebay for a towbar.

Once I have the basic bar in place I can do as suggested and get extras attached to enable easier/more robust rearward recovery. With the added bonus of a removeable tow ball thingy should the need arise.
