Hi
Joined up a good while ago but never posed until now. Been thinking about getting a Jimny for a while now as im getting a bit fed up of spending money on Land Rovers...lol. Seen a few about at my local pay and plays (Silverdale + Weston Coyney both in Stoke) and i must say im impressed with the way they can take on most things sometimes better than a Defender or Disco.
If i do go for one i might have one made by K.A.P or Off Road Armoury so i dont have the agro of builing one.
By the way at the mo i run a Disco V8 with a lift MT's etc.

Definatly cheaper to buy a car already made as parts can be quite expensive, look for one with a rocklobster gearbox if you can as its an expensive but necessary mod for running larger tyres.
Jimnys are great for everything really, but they do get stuck in a few ruts if some swine in a 35" tyres land rovers been wheelspinning his way through!

Hello and Welcome,
My favoured Jimny specialist is KAP and Rhino Ray knows his stuff too but does not do as many products.
Both will build you a truck but KAP often has a few trucks for sale on his website. I bought mine from KAP and found Darren to be most helpful.
I run 205/16 tyres which I think are about 29 inches ish. They do mean you get stuck in deep ruts caused by big Landy's on monster tyres buit the gearing is OK for them and if you avoid the ruts like those they will go anywhere else.
As per Landrovers, it depends on how much you spend. On a Jimny you'd have to pay out for a rocklobster to be able to fit the massive tyres, on a Landy you'd need shares in Ashcroft Transmission!!! Suzuki's don't blow their diffs up (being 4 pin to start with) or snap half shafts like Landy's.
Overall, I think Suzuki's are cheaper and more fun.
Something alot of people in our club have been saying is that a tricked up Landrover with big tyres, lockers and expensive shafts and CV's are great as you can go literally everywhere BUT, being able to effortlessly go everywhere takes the fun out of it as nothing is a challenge anymore.

I go greenlaning and theres quite a few lanes i use that you cant fit a land rover down, or you'd have a large dint in the roofline/bodywork.
On the other hand i have a roof tent, it'll go on my discovery fine, but I'm really going to know its there on the jimny especially without the Anti Roll Bar removed and with a 3" lift.
So if you want overland travel buy something large like a Land Rover, otherwise buy a jimny.

Don't get too excited by a lesser fuel bill, I don't think it will be that much lower, you have to rev a jimny a bit to get it going, which drinks fuel!!! Not sure how much less than a V8 it will be, will be less but not much!!!

Only joking,I dont know how much mine does to the gallon but green laning it does 150 miles to the tank which was £24.In my old one i think i used to get 230 miles to the tank when i used it solely for commuting but with smaller mud tyres on.
