Kingpin cherry was created by RobJXL
Had my first crack at replacing the kingpin bearings today, things seemed to go pretty painlessly following the "how to" guide on here, until that is my less than glamorous assistant in the shape of my brother decided, having consulted the pictures, that "there's definately not enough goo coming out" once we'd got everything apart.
Needless to say our cunning plan to tip the poor motor on it's side a bit more quickly resulted in lots of stuff coming out of the drive shaft hole.
I'm guessing at this point that it was diff oil that wasn't really meant to be making a bid for freedom across the garage floor?

It is the only place oil can come from.

You are supposed to jack the side that you are changing up high to move the oil to the other side and stop it running out.;)

Won't hurt anything, except the smell will never ever go away, even if you clean the oil up
Just top it up after the job is finished.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

That's a relief, I thought I might have killed it. I know what you mean about the smell, it's unearthly.

The only good thing about the smell is it gives you a bit of a reminder your kingpins need looking at!

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!
