yea I love my little Jim still amazes me off road with what it can do :cheer: salisbury was definately an eye opener to its abilitys,lack of a snorkle prevented me playing in the deeper water/mud holes to really test it so one will probably be my next major mod ;)

couldnt fit bigger tyres without lifting it anyway and I like the relativly reasonable mpg specially as its my daily and I use it for my business to so it still needs to be reasonable on road.

snorkle, rear shock mount guards, front shock mount guards are next on the list so its fully protected underneath then who knows maybe a 2inch lift ;)

Good to hear it looks tidy from someone who knows their shit :cheer:

Yours was alot muddier than mine!!!gonna have to get under it today to remove all the mud and grass stuck in all the nooks and crannies!fun times :( the radius arm guards do like to scoop up mud it appears!!

If the radius arms scoop up mud they will need a thorough was out after each time off road or they will be counter productive in rusting the mounts out instead of protecting them. They do bash back when the edges get turned over but will weaken each time.

With the rear shock mounts, why not drill them and use a nut & bolt & carry a spare nut & bolt.

If you can do everything you want without a lift then I wouldn't get involved in the whole lifting & sorting the castor out thing but if not go for it. It will look a bit meaner!

very true about the mounts ive already had to straighten one befor i got the guards!!

you can get rear shock mount guards off jimnybits for 25quid,which saves the time and effort of drilling them and replacing nuts bolts etc, ive heard there not easy to drill out either!

yea a lift will be a long way down my list of mods, it copes very well at its current height with those tyres its not bad at all. if i was going to lift it i would have to buy bigger tyres aswell otherwise its just a waste lifting it up. can you fit longer shocks but keep the stock springs so you have the same ride height but more articulation due to longer shocks? obviously spring clamps would be needed as they would be more likely to dislocate under flex?

I don't think the rear shock mounts are too much bother if the bolt has not snapped in it. I read someone took just 1/2 an hour doing them the other day. A drill bit & some bolts & nylocs will be much less than £25.

If you get shocks the right length for the springs they will limit the droop of the axle and stop the spring dislocating.

For example I have Bigjimny 3" springs and shocks suitable for a 2-3" lift. The ones suitable for a 3-4" lift will allow the spring to dislocate & you will need the spring clamps.

Get Bigjimny extended brake lines as they will be long enough for any lift. Just make sure they are turned away from the wheel so they can't rub on the tyre on full lock when you fit them.

Bigger tyres means more fuel & a slower Jimny & the growing need for a rocklobster. It's a slippery slope!

Any idea what size and length bolts are needed?

yea i understand that, i was wondering the effects of longer shocks for more droop without fitting longer springs which would keep the ride height the same so i wouldnt need caster correction bushes? and i wouldnt have a gaping hole between arch and tyre to make me want bigger tyres :laugh:

i might be barking up the wrong tree tbh but its all about learning about new things. im thinking with the stock springs but longer shocks the travel of the wheel upwards will be the same as the springs aren't longer but the droop of the opposite wheel will be more as the shocks are longer?spring clamps would be needed i think along with extended brake lines.

its my daily driver so i need the fuel economy and have already lost a few mpg with my mud tyres and after speaking to idiotmobil when laning about his doing 80miles to 30quid im definately not going down that route :whistle:
