I don't think that you can feel the play of piston slap in the piston as the rings are sprung.

It's where the piston rattles about in the cylinder bore but as it can go on forever, I'm not sure it marks the bore.

I didn't know about it until I had it but I had an old school mechanic listen to it and explain it to me. I then did lots of internet searching on it.

He told me not to worry about it but I had to drive to Le Mans and wasn't happy, so sold it.

Hopefully it's external though.
