My tyres are Maxis Bravo A/T 225/70R15 100S. So they are 7inch instead of 5.5inch wide and 10 mm higher. But the terrain was very rough, muddy soil with rocks and they must have done the damage, if I went over them. Can't really tell exactly what happened but the original diff was damaged, with parts of the crown assembly broken off. We didn't remove the locker for inspection.

Have a look at this vid and scroll through to about 6 mins in. This is the sort of abuse mine takes occasionally...

Thats twin ARB lockers switched on, snatching in reverse on 31" tyres. Albeit with 26 spline ARB side gears in the diff, HD Trailgear shafts/CVs and strengthened axle casings. The crown wheel and pinion/casing of the diff are from a much earlier car (2000 I think).

Pickup/tipper, R7me gearbox & 6.4 Rocklobster, 31" Toyo MT, 2x ARB air locker 3.9 diffs in braced axles, 6" total lift, Floating rear conversion, Raptor painted, CB, Recaro's, Caged, etc, etc...

Well, I think better still, remember my age from time to time, 70+, and act accordingly! With my knees worn out, I think there is a lot less room for hard driving :-(

I wish to be as active as you at 70+ ;-)

That looks rather impressive! I must have hit upon some combination of factors that caused the forces on my transmission to exceed all limits. More likely the mix of mud and hard rocks, possibly.

Neok: I hope you provide an update with some feedback of what you find when you disassemble the diff. I have to agree with Riccy that the axle and CV are typically weaker links and should have failed first. The locker failing prior to one of those is confusing. I would like to hear what you find when it's apart. Just as a side note, I personally wouldn't hesitate in replacing the locker with another one. Here in the Philippines it is about a 5 to 2 ratio of Chinese (HF brand) to ARB. After extensive hard use, I have never seen any fail.

Going back to a comment in your original post, you may want to look into substituting ARB seals for the Chinese ones. I have read reports that the Chinese seals do have a tendency to fail. For most of the Chinese lockers, the ARB seals are a direct swap.

From one almost 70 year old to a 70+.....isn't it nice never growing up. Good luck

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left
