Jimny wont start. Please help! was created by Samwdj
Hi
I have a SUZUKI JIMNY 02 2005
It can go for months being fine then all of a sudden decided to not start up again. Will turn over just not fire up.
It gets going again after it is bump started but struggles on revs for 20 mins or so until it settles down. (Seems like it will stall if not keeping the revs up with the accelerator)

Have tried a jump starter pack and nothing
Spark plugs have been changed and battery tested and seems to be holding charge

Any ideas?

I have seen people have suggested making sure the fuel pump is working. Does anyone have an idiots guide!? Haha.

Thank you

Sam

You could try disconnecting the feed in the engine bay and switching the ign on being careful to catch the fuel. Better done with the engine cold in case of spillage. Unfortunately the pump and filter is a combined unit in the tank right at the top. To inspect means dropping the tank.

Hello Sam,

In my experience you are suffering of a faulty crank shaft sensor, This little bastard is responsible for telling the ECM (Engine Control Module) in which position the engine is at any given moment.
So in case of a faulty crank Shaft that is giving wrong information the ECM will think the engine is at the wrong point so the whole timing/injection system will go haywire which will lead to the "wont start" problem, also may stop in the middle of the road just out of nowhere just like happened to me.

You also need to check your spark coils and spark wires (there are two of each), recent problem which occurred to me is a very bad idle and stalling ,went through hell until found the problem i have changed the IAC (idle Air Control) got better but not perfect cleaned the throttle and nothing, even changed it to new one...at the end i have decided to change the spark wires and coils ( i chose not to buy original ones but to get "hella" kit instead) and the result is perfect.

Hope i helped, and good luck with it.

A code reader would be a good way to be pointed in the right direction. If it's an O2 is it a convertible with a single cam engine as they are OBD1 but there is a reader that works and hopefully someone will know which and point you to it. Check out the Bigjimny shop.

There are few things that stop it running. The crankshaft sensor is one as it stops sparks as the engine doesn't know where it is.
