4wd Light / Vacuum System Fault - Error code reset? was created by CJV8
Finally sourced a replacement vacuum solenoid pack for my Jimny, but the 4wd light is still flashing.
It comes on as soon as the ignition is turned on, so I assume that means it's a fault code that needs to be cleared before the vacuum system will work again? Hope so, otherwise there're still issues to be resolved!
If it's a fault code issue can anyone recommend either some software, or a hand held code reader?

I use iCar2 mini with wifi and connect with my phone and an OBD Car Doctor Free app. Works like a charm.

Is your OBD the same as mine was...I have an OBD/whatever reader for a 2001 M13A which is of no use to me as I have a Megasquirt ECU...
It could be yours for a nominal fee and postage...unless you're near Leeds in which case you can borrow it/I'll look at the vac system?

As far as I know a non Suzuki Dealer reader will not switch the light out and I do not think the Suzuki kit will do it either.
This is a bit od a pig to diagnose as you need a vacumn pump with a guage
The light comes on because there is no vacum. in the hub engage side of the system within say 10 seconds of pressing engage 4WD switch and that sets a software latch in the 4WD processor behind the dash and flashes the green light.
Disconnecting the battery does not reset it as the 4WD processor has its own internal backup.
There would be two main reasons for the light flashing.
1 After a while the solenoid that switch on the engage vacumn side gets stuck and therefore the pack of two solenoids needs replaced unless the little filters connected to it get caked in mud.
2 There is a leak in the Vacumn hoses to the hubs or the front axle pipe that takes the vacumn across the axle rusts out.
3 The vacumn sensor is faulty or the electrical connector to it is disconnected or the vacum reevoir under the front drivers wing has rusted out.
If it is reason 2 you need to check for a leak and sort it. You should be able to put the vacumm pump on the engage hose and pull a good vacumn and the sytem should hold that vacumn.
If it is reason 1 you need to replace the solenoid.
If reason 3 you need to check the sensor buy running a vacumn pump to it and make sure the system holds the vacumn so you neeed a vacumn pump with a guage to check the sensor and the vacum reservoir under the wing also holds a vacum. Then check connector to the sensor.
When you put it all back together you may still have the flashing light maybe not.
You may have to switch the system to WD to get vacumn in the engage system to then let the vacumn sensor say yes I have vacumn soit will reset the flashing light.
Clear as mud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PM me for a phone number if you want talked through this procedure as it gets complicated.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I was 100% sure my lines were ok, however now I'm not, so I think I'll have to get under the Jimny again and reinspect all the lines.
2wd should be fine for a while, it's not like we get much snow in the North East of Scotland......
