Is it a plane? was created by ned_lezyah
Hi everyone,
Been lurking for a bit and bought my first jimny last week, took it for a test drive (maybe not for as long as I should have :pinch: ) all seemed fine. About 25 minutes into the drive home this low droning noise starts and eventually gets so loud it sound like there's an aeroplane in the back. If you turn her off for half hour the noise goes then after 20 minutes driving same thing again.
So I'm thinking diff? How loud is worryingly loud? Or what else could it be? Or is that just normal? I'm not mechanically minded so all help appreciated.
Alan.

Half an hour is not really long enough for stuff to cool down properly to then start again in 20 min of driving. was it bought private or trade if the latter I would have it back for them to sort though if private and with no experience get an independent garage to have a look. There's nowt hanging loose underneath?

Check the wheel bearings to start, just lift the back wheel in the air and try to move it. there should be almost no play and no noise when turning it except for brakes rubbing on the drum.

Thanks for replies, I'll check for play and for the sake of £50 change the wheel bearings anyway, eliminate one thing then go from there.
Doesn't appear to be anything loose, and sounds consistent with slowing down and speeding up (not any more noisy over bumps etc)
