Indicator beep. was created by JapJim
Sorry if I seem a little uncertain on all topics Jimny, but I've just purchased my first (2005 hardtop). Really am a beginner.

The question I have is regarding a ``beeping'' noise when I indicate to turn left or right or if I put my hazard warning lights on.

The noise beeps in time with the indicator flashing and the beep goes a little quieter when I press the break pedal. It only stops when I turn the indicator off.

Only started doing it today after a normal road drive. It has a Westfalia tow hitch and lighting point (socket) at rear....but no other fittings.

I'm not overly technical so any advice , suggestion or assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

UPDATE: Thanks for the replies so far.......much appecaiated knowledge.

Just to confirm the tow hitch is a Westfalia brand which comes with a stubby orange key. It is inserted directly in to the side of the hitch to activate or adjust the hitch with a small turn cog i believe (but there's no manual). I did try this key on Monday....only to see if it fits. Just wondering if me trying the key has had anything to do with the beeping. I shall check in the daylight and update.

It's a new one on me!

Is it the same noise as when you open the door with your keys in the ignition or leave your lights on with the key out of the ignition?

Mine does that but only if I have a trailer on, it is the repeater warning, like you would forget you are towing a trailer  . I would therefore start looking at the towbar electrics for some sort of short circuit be it water or grot in the socket or one or more wires having rubbed through.

I'd guess someone has either wired the trailer buzzer incorrectly or the 7 pin socket needs a bit of attention. You should be able to find the buzzer by following the beeps but it will most likely be under the nearside rear wheel arch trim as that's where the wiring loom goes to the rear lights. You'll need to take the back seats out to get the trim out to find it!
