Hi,
I'm installing a powertrax in my rear diff, I've checked the backlash and marked all the parts to correctly orientate the carrier, bearing adjusters and ring gear when replacing it. But going through the instructions for installation in lockrights manual, it says to re-use the thrust washers for the side gears.
I bought the locker from jimnybits store and read on the page that one of the two thrust washers for each side gear 'must be removed'. I don't like straying from the instructions as I know diffs can be a nightmare to set up and get working correctly, but I'm guessing the guys at jimnybits are talking from experience and it's possible that this version of the lockright is used in other diffs as the instructions don't specify that it's for a jimny installation.
I've tried fitting the lockright with the both thrust washers on one side, but it doesn't seem to want to fit, however, if I do remove one of the thrust washers, it will probably fit with a bit of belt sanding to the crossmember centre union (that's what I'm calling it anyway).
Just wondered if anyone else has came across a similar predicament?

There's two thrust washers on either end, remove the thicker washers and rebuild it with the two thiner washers and use standard gearbox oil and you'll find that it unlocks easier when conrnering

Thanks Richie,
I wondered what the reason was for taking the washers out due to it not being in the installation manual. That makes things a lot clearer.

The manual is for a samurai. Probably the reason why it's not 100% accurate.

Thanks Tom,
That ties up with a video I watched on youtube. Guy there was doing a samurai diff, looked exactly the same design, but he explicitly underlined that the thrust washers were to be left in place. Guess it's because powertrax are an American company and Suzuki don't have a market for new cars there anymore. The diffs do look exactly the same though, but it was a different lockright model number that was used.
