Soon to be a Jimny Owner was created by Jambo
Hi all,

New here and new to the Jimny world. I'm planning on buying a Jimny in the next month or 2 as a second motor, mainly for field type work as I shoot but also the occasional pay and play day as I have a centre close by.

I won't be using it every day so not too concerned about it being smooth on the road but I do want to keep it drivable as my shoot is a 2 hour round trip.

From my research so far I'm thinking about the following (don't want to spend a fortune):

- 1.5" spring spacers
- modular wheels with 30mm offset
- 215 75 15 mud tyres

My question is, will I have to do anything else other than fit the spacers? I've read that the brake hoses shouldn't need extending for such a small lift but is there anything else I should consider?

Also with the wheels, offset, lift and tyre choice detailed above - will the tyres rub? I'd rather not start chopping bits off the car if I can help it (for no other reason than I don't know what I'm doing!)

If all OK, how much more off-road capable would these mods make it?

Many thanks.

This is not what you are wanting to hear but you would be better off buying some standard size tyres with a bit more off road bias to them and getting either some hd transfer box mounts or a cradle and saving your money for 12 gauge shells. The jimny is a very competent off road vehicle out of the box however in no version of reality will it ever come close to the ability of a land rover. Ok a heavily modified one might stand against a standard land rover but not one with an equal level of modifications. What you have to learn is how to get the best from the jimny and use it's strengths of being light and small to your best advantage. My mostly standard jimny can get places my 90 can't but not by competing head on. Get a jimny take it out in standard spec and be amazed at how much ground it can cover, then get some decent tyres for your predominant terrain and be even more amazed.

Thanks for the reply, all makes sense.

Could I just ask what a hd transfer box mount and a cradle is? Sorry, I'm new to this!

Essentially the transfer box sends drive to the axles but it sits below the level of the chassis on 2 cheese grade aluminium mounts, slightest knock and the mounts crack. 2 alternative one is replacing the mounts in steel or better put the whole thing in a steel cage.

As everything I do with mine is either road or field I only have jimnybits mounts and am aware of the limits this imposes ie I don't regularly go rock hopping in it or if I do I take it on the gentle line, it's pointless killing the jimny when I have a 90 for that kinda stuff.
