Disconnected pipe. was created by Casey
Hi I'm looking for some info about my Jimny.

My old Jimny, an 05 Reg, was written off recently and I bought a rather rusty Y reg as a replacement, to fill in until I have funds to get a newer model.

Anyway, while putting a new set of wheels on I noticed a flexible pipe hanging down. On closer inspection it seems that the end of the fixed pipe has corroded and broken off inside the flexible pipe. Please can someone tell me if this is part of the vacuum hub system?

I assume I can just put another flexible pipe on?

However, how do I know it's working?

When I put the car into 4wd the green light comes on but I don't hear the clunk like I used to on my 05 reg, but when I had the drivers side jacked up I checked the wheel in neutral and it freewheeled, then when I put it in 4wd it wouldn't, which I assumed meant it was engaging.

Please can someone tell me does 4wd work even if the vacuum hub system isn't operating? If so what does the vacuum hub system actually do?

Sorry, but as you can see I have limited knowledge of how 4wd works.

One pipe locks the hubs in "clunk"
One pipe unlocks them"clunk"
If the pipe snapped when in 4wd and/or is the unlock pipe your hubs will be permanently locked
If it's the lock pipe then your 4wd won't be working and the seller may have fooled the system to give a solid green light

Thanks for the info, but if it is permanently in 4wd would the front d/s wheel still turn when jacked up and in neutral?

On the same subject. This might be a stupid question but does the engine need to be running for the vacuum to work?

Check if the front wheel is turning the front prop when the transfer box is in 2wd. If it is then your hubs are locked in

Yes the engine does need to be running to create the vacuum.
