Boot Floor Repairs was created by Bigchridy
So I've been off the Jimny scene for a while now but the time has come to get the Jim back on the road!

There are several things the truck needs before it will be road ready but the main issue is the dreaded boot floor which has been patched in the past but is showing signs of corrosion. I have taken a hammer to the corrosion and its not too bad but I have decided that now is the perfect time to replace the floor.

I have seen that there is now a repair panel available but I am reluctant to go down this route. I have removed the rear seats and I'm planning to make some storage draws so I don't need the floor to be shaped like the standard one. So I plan to use sheet steel to make my new floor. I have an idea on what I'm going to do but, I have been talking to the lads I work with (who all have their own ideas of how to do it). So I thought I would also ask the Jimny community what they have done or what they would do!

Obviously once the repairs are under way there will be pictures to follow!

So all ideas are welcome pictures as well!

Hi mate, the replacment panal you talk about has been on the market for a month or so now made by a fellow member of this fine forum. Its what you think is best for you, ive heard good stuff about the panal but sheet metal is fine espeacially if you have it to hand. Go for it as you said you dont need the whole for the jack .. :)

Cheers mate. Didn't realise the replacement panel was so new to the market!

Main reason for sheet steel is as you say because I have it to hand at work! I have run into a bit of a problem as my mig needs repairing and I cant use the ones at work as they Jimny is off the road! So I need to get some spares sorted for the mig and then I can get cracking!

In the mean time I plan to prep the floor pan area and remove fuel tank.

I'll keep you all posted on my progress!

And so it begins! Still not got the mig up and running but thought I would make a start.

Cheers OllieNZ. I hope the rear arches are ok. I don't want to look!

Have you got any pics of yours and how you went about welding it up? I still haven't finalised my plans but I am thinking of raising the floor slightly so that it is level and then fabricating some sort of pull out draw (like overland vehicles) so that I can store my recovery gear and tools.

I have also considered a rear winch but have not had chance to work out if there is enough room for the winch, exhaust and my overland draw plan!
