If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Martin will confirm, but AFAIK, the difference is the retaining collar for abs has a dirty great cog on the bearing side.
Whether that means that the ABS collar is longer, and the oilseal further in the axle tube I don't know.
Daresay you could fit two collars, machining one shorter so the split isnt on the seal track if that were the case.

My understanding is the bearings are the same, Just the abs ring retainer being the difference. I actually use 6207 closed bearings in mine, and just pushed the coller up a bit further with no problems. I'm lucky with mine as I have removable drive flanges, So I can pull the bearing off the wheel end without removing the coller.

I go through wheel bearings on the rear, looking at the spacer, is this just there for the oil seal to seat on and keep the oil from leaking out from the axle tubes? If this is the case a sealed bearing ie. 6207 2rs that has rubber seals incorporated in the bearing would solve this....i think.
Can you still buy the modification that was used on the SJ's that stops you having to undo the back plate and brake lines?

The spacer is duel purpose, It is for the oil seal to run against. But it also holds the bearing in place on the shaft, Stopping the half shaft from trying to escape from the axle. It is actually known as a bearing retainer for that reason.
