This fella -
www.bigjimny.com/index.php/forum?view=topic&catid=18&id=57148
- has done it the other way I believe... he's used the stock* Vitara 5.125:1 diff in the back [strike]and changed the front ring and pinion to the Vitara's 5.125:1 ratio to lower the gearing to run larger tyres[/strike]. As the front ring and pinion are similar sized to the Vitara, hence why I was able to use my Vitara front LSD in the Jimny's front axle casing / carrier, although it did need some machining (by Rockwatt
) to get it to fit... [strike]be interesting to ask the builder in the link above whether he has changed the front R&P yet?...[/strike]
*Early Vitara, as later Vit's have 4.875:1 diffs (the 4Us, etc...)
EDIT : Just re-read his build thread and he's running a Samurai axle up front... presumably with the Vit R&P in... So we revert to the question of whether Vit R&Ps would fit in a Jimny front diff? (without machining)... :S

Its easy with the rear but the front is high pinion on the jimny so its a no no I'm afraid.
There is always the option of hybrid axles using Vitara mid sections.
