Front locker help was created by Jimnyjack1993
Hello, im not a wiz kid when it comes to machanics so this might be a stupid question.
Iv been looking into lockers for the rear diff and came across a website that only had a auto locker for the front, but iv seen people say about how a locker in the front just wont work.
Why would this be?
If the hubs were in the free position and the truck was in 2wd then would this mean the locker would be disengaged so to speak.
Would the auto locker only come to life when the truck is in 4wd and the hubs locked?
Thanks jack.

yeah you've pretty much got it, for road use with the fwh unlocked you would see no difference,
however having an auto locker in the front axle when off roading will put extra strain onto the already realatively weak cv's on a jimny, really you only want a locked used on the front when climbing a hill with the wheels straight as thats when you cv joint is of its highest strength
thats why people choose to place an arb (or other selectable locking diff) in the front
realisticly with a rear locker there isnt much need for the front unless in compotition or rock crawling

Look at Dave from bits4vits Jimny. He runs a Lockrite in the front and an ARB in the back I think. He has Rob Storr front shafts and cv's though.

Yes, you are right. My bad!
An LSD would be much better I think too.

Yup, there's a Vitara Calmini LSD been machined and installed into the front diff carrier by Mr. Rockwatt @
RAM Auto Design
, this neccesitated the fitment of
Rob Storr's
26 spline front shafts to fit the 26 spline LSDiff, and also brought the added benefit of stronger shafts and CVs... I still run vacuum hubs, so that when I slip into 4x4 that brings the LSD into play*
And in the rear there's an ARB airlocker, also installed by Mr. Rockwatt @ RAM Auto Design
*it's great for tight cornering offroad, select 4x4 low leaving the ARB in the rear off, and blip the throttle, and the truck spins round nicely...
