Rooftent on standard Jimny roofrails? was created by eh
Hi All,
I'm new to this message board, followed it for a while now but today thought it was time to register.
Specially because I have a question on which I can't find a clear answer.
We recently bought a 2003 Jimny with only 70.000 KM on the clock.
We want to drive it around 25.000 KM from the Netherlands > North cape > Moscow > Mongolia > and then back home as an sort of honeymoon trip in march 2016.
Because of the small storage space and the comfort we want to use a rooftent.
Think it's more convenient for such a trip. The Jimny is fitted with the standard roof rails and I want to know if it's
possible to fit the rooftop tent on those rails or that you definitely needs a special roof rack made?
I saw some different opinions on this topic around the internet.
Hope you can help me out.

Maximum load is 30kg, so not unless you are really really skinny and the tent weighs nothing!

Its easy enough to remove the weak (plastic and aluminum) rails then make something to mount on the same bolts. This is what most people do.

I've had a roof tent on the standard rails, it was a 'Prime-Tech' tent... Errr. 50kg.... But it didn't fall off.. Lol

Do a bit of searching on the net. I remember coming accross a company in South Africa who did an expedition conversion for the Jimny. It included a custom made roof tent and habitation facilities where the rear seats are.
