Hi
I am a new 2007 Jimny JLX owner and came across this forum. Sorry I haven't posted in the relevant section yet but I have a question that I hope somebody can point me in the right direction.
There is a squealing noise coming from the engine bay (belt slipping). The belt for the power steering/air conditioning has just been replaced (as it seemed it was coming from this area) and it's tightness has been checked. However, the mechanic at Halfords has said the pulleys look slightly rusty and this could be the problem. Also the fan belt looks like new and has been checked for tightness. The noise is intermittent and if you dip the clutch and rev slightly the noise will disappear (on most occasions). As the noise happens intermittently it is hard to get it to do it at a mechanics.
The car has been meticulously maintained and has done 65,000 miles.
Any help and suggestions would be gratefully received.
Regards
Chris.

Hi Chris
I had squeal for ageeees and thought it was the belts- it wasn't in the end, was the alternator bearing and the alternator eventually died and required replacement.
May not be you're issue but worth investigating? Mine was also worse from start up however became more and more apparent later on, especially when lights, radio, heater etc were on.
I bought my alternator second hand from J999pre on here for a great price so not the end of the world if yours requires replacement!
