Steering groan - damper? was created by Caulkheader
Having had a damper on my previous Jimny I fitted the Pro Comp kit to my new 2014 one.
Its been on for a week or so now and it has made a positive difference to the drive. However I now have a groan from the steering whenever I give it any right hand lock. The noise is only there as I move the wheel.
I suspect its hydraulic fluid under pressure. I have removed the damper and the noise has gone.
Any thoughts from the forum as to wether this is the damper or rack at fault or is this to be expected with a damper (didn't happen on my old Jimny). I would be surprised if it were the rack as the car has only done 1200 miles.

I think I'm right in thinking your Jimny is nearly new. At which point I expect it to be something to do with the steering damper and would put a bit of rubber grease on the bushes if rubber and some other grease on them if nylon, which ought to solve the noise. If not, I wouldn't worry about it unless it's driving you mad!
A squirt of WD40 on the suspected bushes will stop it temporarily for diagnosis purposes first.

Thanks, yes it is new, my second one.
The supplier is going to exchange the damper for a new unit. I'll fit it and see what happens.
Cheers for the response
