I know it is not legal to do this but if I am going to just use jimjam offroad and I remove the cat, what do I need to do to fool the ecu. I know on some vehicles you can join 2 of the wires which somehow tells the ecu that it is in 'mid range'. I assume that with cat removed there is an increase in engine power. I did this with my Scooby and the difference in power was unbelievable and did not seem to effect the car....except economy of course.

I was looking at making hydrogen fuel cell and wondered about the sensor, I'll be interested in the answer to this one

Hello Mart.

a question. a jimny has one or two lambda probes?

the solution to trick the ecu, is very different in each case

Well I have just cut mine open and removed the honeycomb in the manifold as it had disintegrated and was causing some serious power issues only time will tell how long the other one stays standerd

I've a 2003 Jimny and the PO had removed the Cat internals.

Worked fine on short runs, but once the engine got hot on a longer run, the EML came on.

When you say you'll only use it off road do you mean it'll not go for mot's etc. If so just get a replacement pipe with the hole for the lambda sensor and accept the check engine light will be on and don't worry.

If it will need to be mot'd get yourself a cheap cat and pop it on for the mot.

Or just gut your current cat so it looks like it has one.

There are no exhaust limits on older jimnys specified for the mot so it gets tested by the old emissions test, which it ought to pass without a cat.
