You will need to eliminate each item in the drive train to find the offender.

I don't know how the jimny half shafts are attached to the wheel hub, but on my range rover I had the flange retaining bolts come loose and they rattle on take up.

I would suspect UJ's, had them go clunky on the rr as well, might be worth checking the diff pinion backlash if all other avenues are exhausted.

Hi,
I have the same issue. Changed rear bushes for poly bushes, checked holes to make sure they were not elongated, then did the rear prop shaft UJ. Clunk still there. Spent quite a while at local garage driving back and forth over their pit. Seems that the cause is backlash in the rear diff. It has been suggested to me that tightening the nut on the diff flange may help but not convinced as the nut is tapped into a key way on the shaft. So I have purchased a spare diff but have not had chance to change it yet plus the cluck has not gotten any worse so I will monitor it.

Hope this helps

Martin

hi mate thanks for your reply fella yes i have been the same back and forward trying to work it out what it is took the rear prop off and no noise so it is at the rear my prop seems to be in good order all bushes look fine and all bolts are tight and no tell tale mark of movement in bolts

so as you said could be rear diff might try tighting up the flange nut see if that stops it is there a torque setting for the nut out there let me no if you put your second diff in and if it stops
