Vac hubs was created by jimothy
I'm thinking of getting a pair of freewheeling hubs for my 2007 jimny and get shot of the vac hubs. Should I buy new or go for the sj ones. And does this give any problems with the rest of the system.ie will it affect the transfer box side of things.

What's wrong with your vacuum hubs? I'd persevere with them for the sake of convenience- I've found mine to be very reliable and if there is an issue it often points to another problem like a wheel bearing.

Getting out in the rain and mud to engage your hubs is sooo 1970s!

Touch wood ive never had problem with my vac hubs either.

Generally all the issue is is a split hose anyway so no big deal to fix.

Most people just seem to leave manual hubs engaged.

Mines 6 years old. Never had an issue with the vacuums hubs either.

From what I've read, as long as they're being used every so often, they're fine. Its when they are not used for months at a time that they are at higher risk of deterioration.

Imagine a rubber band. Stretch it and flex it and it'll last a long time. Leave it in the sun for 6 months and it'll crack and split straight away

Mines 10 years old and been greenlaned from day one, usually fairly seriously! Never had a problem and couldn't help but giggle at the rest of the guys getting in and out on Saturday when it was raining to lock or unlock theirs !
I have had problems with shearing the studs off on another jimny when using manual hubs though!

Thanks guys. I have had a few days sorting the jimny, rear shocks with seized top bolts had to cut them off. Had to remove the exhaust and the cat fell apart. And also done both sides king pin bearings so nice and tight.
My jimny is 2007 with 145000 on the clock and to be honest is pretty good but as the wife drives it I don't want any vac hub trouble. They seem fine pipes etc but don't engage without a lot of grinding. So I thought I would go the manual route at least we can just engage them when wanted. We don't do a lot if off roading at the moment. But I have no intention of selling it. Normally run all my cars till they drop.
