Power Steering Pipes Corroded! Advice please! was created by suzook
Hi Guys.
I'm after some help/advice please.
My 2000 model year Jimny has just passed its MOT (114K miles), however it's had an advisory notice for the pair of Power Steering pipes which are badly corroded and need replacing.
I dont want to skimp on cheap rubbish here, however my local Suzuki Dealer has quoted me £630 in total including fitting and VAT, for the pipes, gaskets, bolts and clamps to replace them. The genuine Suzuki parts come to around £360 (that's with 10% discount), the rest is fitting.
I must admit I was shocked at the cost - the vehicle is in otherwise immaculate condition (i've owned since new) so don't want to sell.
Any thoughts - are quality aftermarket parts are available?
Is the price I've been quoted fair/reasonable?
I assume it's quite an involved job in replacing these? I'd need a garage to do the work.
Any particular brands anyone would recommend? I've had a brief look and can't find any alternatives - so looks like I may have to go with the genuine parts - which would be my first choice if it wasn't for the high price!
Thoughts/options/suggestions?
Cheers in advance!

Not with a jimny, but on previous vehicles I have removed the pipes , taken them to a hydraulic pipe manufacturer and paid £30 a piece to be made in 10 minutes flat.

I am sure with a bit of eBaying around you could rustle up the parts for a fraction of the cost.
Main Stealers really are w@nkers. It's really a case of bend over and touch your toes :'(
