Shock bottoms out. That not right, right? was created by pont
Hi everybody!
New to the forum, first post.
My Jimny has a problem with the front shocks bottoming out
really easily. I have to drive over speedbumps at speeds that
makes lowered tuner-cars pass me...
The car is 2005 model vvt 4wd.
I have installed a 1,5" lift kit that extends the shocks and
adds the plastic pads above the springs. I cant find anything
wrong with the job I did (see picture).
As you can see in the picture the shock has about 5cm to move
until it hits the bottom, but if you look at the spring it
can be compressed about 8cm before it hits the cushion.
Everything should be original, except for the lift kit.
Now, I tryed to find the shock dimensions used on a jimny and
all I could find was this:
www.shropshire-suzuki.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13340
According to this the stroke of the front shoks should be
about 153mm where as my have a stroke of about 121mm, 3cm
less.
I measured my shocks (from center of eye to the absolute top of the sliding part):
Extended ~447mm
Compressed ~334mm
I know I have not used the same measuring points but there is
still a big difference is in the compressed end and in the stroke length.
Are my original shocks for some reason odd size? As I mentioned they should be original.
So far I changed the brake discs and the rear part (box) of
the exhaust and both where hard to find right. Most of the
discs and exhausts on sale where not compatible with my jimny.
Go figure...
Any toughts????

Take the spacers off the shock absorbers and try it without them , you might loose some downward suspension travel but my guess is you'll be fine without them.

What did you expect when making the shocks longer?
When you put in spacers, or just longer shocks, it also adds to the compressed length.
Either loose the spacers or make the bump stops longer.
Same goes if you put on longer shocks.

That was fast
I have to try the shock without the extension and see how it works.
Good point TomDK! Just did not cross my mind that the bump stop is not where it used to be  and therefore cant compare the two distances (shock 5cm and spring 8cm).
