long term plans for engine conversion was created by robs5230
on and off , i've had my jimny for a while now and the only thing i really find lacking is performance. i dont mean road speed, just the lack of power off road.
i think i may have found a cheap isuzu 1.7td engine. its currently sitting in a cavalier of about 1997 vintage and belongs to an old dear thats just replaced it after owning the cav from new. it had a new engine about 10 years ago due to flooding so it has about 60k on it.
the cav is up for peanuts and i'm wondering whether to snap it up for the engine ?
my questions are... what else would i need to convert the jim ? and at what sort of cost ? i reckon i could do the engine swap with a mate.
also would this be the engine swap of choice or would a petrol suzuki lump be better ? my jim is a daily drive but i'm happy at 50-60 mph , just need a bit of grunt.
cheers

Do you have a rocklobster? If not, that's what you want, not a more powerful engine.
You're after torque not power. I doubt you'll need more torque than that allowed by a rocklobster by it's ultra low gearing.
