Hi all, some advice needed.
Yesterday my sister got home and heard a "bubbling" sound from her Jimny. She opened the bonnet to discover that the overflow bottle had come off of the bracket, and the lid on top had been blown partially open. A lot of coolant had been lost, and what was left was dirty, despite having the coolant changed about a month ago. There were no oil speckles or any oily smell, it just looked dirty but she could still see the blue coolant colour in it. She topped up the radiator and filled the coolant bottle.
This morning she opened the bonnet and the levels were fine, but after driving for about half an hour the temperature guage creeped up to about 3/4 when it is usually at around 1/2. She looked under the bonnet and the overflow bottle was empty and the lid was off.
The fan works when the engine runs, and the heaters are still hot when on full blast. The Jimny hasn't overheated completely yet but I think this is mainly because she's being so careful and keeping her eye on things and stopping the car when the guage creeps up.
I know this could be due to a long list of things, but does anyone know if it is anything obvious, or what the cheapest place to start looking would be? Tomorrow I am going to remove the radiator and give it a flush, but apart from that I don't know where to start looking without spending lots of money.
Thanks for your help

Is there a bleed valve somewhere or do I just run it with the heaters on full and the rad cap off? I haven't seen any valves, but I did my gf's Clio once and the valve on that was quite well hidden.
The Jimny is a 2001 with a DOHC engine by the way

Get her up to temp with cap off . Little blips of throttle will make the air bubble up
