Went swimming in the jimny - wee bit help/advice? was created by The Dug
Hi Folks,
On way into work tonight I 'had to' take the jimny through a flooded road. I didn't expect it to be quite as deep as it was (half way up the doors) and I'm very proud of the wee thing for getting through it.
However
I now have a split exhaust at the downpipe and most likely a blown back box, not too bothered about this as it's repairable.
Initially the 4WD wouldn't disengage (4WL t 4WH was fine) but that resolved itself so I figured it was the wee filter blocked with water/silt.
My big worry is that I've done something slightly more fundamentally wrong as I'm getting a faint oil can light on the dash (it is very faint and comes and goes).
I've removed the air filter and found it very wet on the inlet side but (thankfully) bone dry on the engine side with no evidence of water at all in the outlet pipework. Checked the oil level and it's fine with no evidence of emulsification.
Hoping it's just dampness in contacts etc so I'm going to try and move it into a garage over my nightshift to help dry it all out.
Any thoughts?

I too am having issues, car sounds a bit more loose and tappety so need to drop the oil and replace,
Also having indicator issue, seems to be the hazard blowing the fuse, left indicator is not workin and clicks and the right works fine!
Relay has not blown...
Has been stood for a while so things should have dried out, been a week now...
Next step is to wd40 the connections...

On YouTube here's a fair few Jimmy's wading! I take it they don't like going through water very much? Unless a snorkel would do the trick!

I wd40'd every under bonnet connection I could get my hands on, snorkel and breather kit, and I take it through every ford and flood I can and havnt had a problem.
Only issue is the jimnys weight, since it's such a Lightweight everytime I've had it in deep waters the back end lifts, I just be careful when taking it through water with a current, and always stick it in 4low to keep the revs up in deep water.
I'm suprised how water tight the little jimnys cabin is, I've followed landrover sand vitaras through water, they've had a footwel full, I've been bone dry!
I took it through like a 3ft ford and that was about as deep as I'd go, just make sure you know what the riverbed or bottom of the flood is like, and keep a good bow wave going.

I never had any probs wading off road, got snorkel and breathers, it's driving through floods on road, I think even slowing down still going fast enough to force water into the ecu, I seem to loose gear indicator (auto box) and get warning lights but fine once dried out.
