Jimny losing Power was created by Corrin
Hi,
I have a Y reg (2001) automatic Jimny that runs fine apart from a couple of occasions recently.
The first one being a bit of a scary one as it happened on the motorway. Going down on the motorway (halfway through a 6o mile journey) the car juddered a couple of times when I was doing about 65 mph, but nothing much else. However on the return journey the car did the same, but seemed to lose power as well. I immediately pulled over and was towed home. Didn't take into garage as my husband wanted to give it a run around himself to see what happened .... Nothing!
This lasted about 3 months without any thing happening (however no motorway journeys) until it happened again going up a long steep hill. Again, fine after the incident.
There seems to be a bit of a coolant leak as we have to top it up. Could it be electrical?
Don't want to venture back on the motorway until this is sorted, but I am reluctant to take it to Suzuki garage as I'm sure they will carry out all sorts of unnecessary tests and charge a fortune.

Sounds like a sensor issue, most probably the cam angle, maybe the oxygen
I have heard of this happening at high revs... personally wouldn't drive a Jimny at 65 (near 4000rmp) for a prolonged period... I keep mine at 55 (3000rpm) and tootle

Did it pull at all when you touched the brakes? Could be a brake binding

Crankshaft position sensor maybe.
I agree I never really exceed 60mph cruise @ 50 55mph.

Thank you. I do try to keep to 55 - 60 mph on the motorway but a busy M6 full of lorries sometimes requires a higher speed.

What do I need to do to investigate a sensor issue? is it an expensive job?
