Good Afternoon guys,

I'm desperate for a little advice, I have scanned the pages on here but can't seem to find an issue quite like mine.

As it says in the title I have just got myself an 03 Jimny 02 and I am in love with the old girl!

Here's my issue, went out last night and had a play, used 4H and had no issues at all. Later I required 4L so came back to neutral depressed the handle/lever but for the life of me could not get 4L to engage

I've had a look today after ready some of the posts on here regarding 4WL issues, when I select 4H I can hear the front hubs locking and have checked the condition of the vacuum pipes and they seem ok. It feels almost like a transfer box issue, but I'm just completely guessing here. The 4WD selector lever depresses and comes back a little but won't 'click' into position :-(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated I really want to get the car sorted so I can get out properly :-)

Thanks in advance

David

Sounds to me like the previous owner used 4wd very rarely if ever before!

I bought mine in a similar way, changed the oil, and kept engaging 4h and 4l while sat at the lights, or busy junctions... Not moving just engage and disengage before moving.

This loosened the system up and I can now shift easily

Wind up can cause shifting issues also. Where were you using it in 4h? Is there a chance you could have wound th system up? The problem normally arises when you come to shift into 2h

Try moving slightly (a foot or so) backwards or forwards and try again as the gubbins in the box might not be quite lining up.

Thanks Gent, I shall try both in the morning. Here's some lack of experience coming in what exactly do you mean when you say winding up? I used the 4H to climb up a damp freshly harvested field, died halfway up then tried for 4L and couldn't get it's. Back down, bit of a run up and 4H made it just :-)

Hate to be patronising, but you are pushing the lever down, as well as back? :silly:

I am indeed, depress handle, pull back. Goes back maybe a further half inch then it goes solid. Sometimes I get a grind, other times it will almost latch but when I select 1st it jolts back into the 4H position.
