Air Conditioning Problem was created by mikecarroll
On my 2010 Jimny the compressor cuts in and out - sometimes every few seconds. This happens from start and as it's 85f currently it can't be because it has become over cold !!! The AC also works when in 4WD, I didn't think this should happen. Lastly is the engine so lacking in power that you should feel the reduction in speed (when travelling at say 30mph) when the compressor kicks in??
Any help would be appreciated.

If it's going out on low pressure does that suggest the system needs recharging?

There will be a problem if the compressor going out to often it can lead the compressor coil to fail, yes usually if the unit is not run for a period of time refrigerant will pass from the compressor seal as it is shaft driven. When the unit is running refrigerant/oil will lubricate the seal and stop the leak. The usual process is recover gas pressure test using moisture free nitro, locate leak evacuate and re-weigh the refrigerant into the liquid side(failure to charge this way will fill the compressor full of liquid and damage valves!) Refrigerant used is r134a

The pump will click in and out to regulate the temp so as not to get to cold inside and dry the air out to much as air con removes mosture from the air
It may have a fault(low gas) it may not but get it checked out by a qualified aircon guy NOT some where like kwikfit and hen you will no what is wrong
