Engine Rattle on start was created by Goat
Hi, the jimny has started making a rattle when I start it for a few seconds. It's the 2001 model with the cam chain I think. Has anyone any experience with this or any ideas what could be causing it?
Thanks in advance

Could possibly be lack of oil pressure when starting. It would mean it takes a few seconds for oil to reach the timing chain and would cause a rattle. My corsa does this if it hasn't been used for a few days as all the oil has gone back down to the sump.
Could also be a stretched chain although it would probably rattle all the time.
Hope this helps

Cheers, at least it doesn't sound like it's something major. Might try an engine addative cleaner thing.

Could also be the shields over the front section of the exhaust.
They are held on with bolt on type clips that rust through and allow the shielding to vibrate.
I replaced mine only a week or so ago with some stainless jubilee clips
