Sounds like you have the dreaded "death wobble" (not as bad as it sounds). Often this is caused by king pin bearings being worn. The bearings and races need replacing. It's all part of the hub where the cv joint goes but unlikely the cv joint itself is causing the problems. Parts to replace king pins are not hugely expensive so I guess you will be paying about 300 pounds in labour. It's not cheap as it s
hould only take a couple of hours.
Would be suspicious if he says the cv itself actually needs replacing....
