Stereo head unit replacement was created by vole
Hello all,
I am new to jimnys, picking up my first one next week - a 2006 hard top. I was wondering how easy it would be to replace the standard stereo with a new head unit. I understand that you need a fascia plate to fit a standard size radio (DIN 1 or 2) but they don't seem to exist for the jimny.
Have any of you guys changed your head units and if so how did you get round the fascia plate problem. Would a vitara one fit?
Of course I understand that the speakers and amp are also a bit weak so they may eventually get upgraded too!
Thanks for your help!

My head unit was changed already and I didn't have to change anything but my Jimny is 2001 so it mite be different.... I only add to put the metal piece where the radio fits in (rectangular) I suppose its like an insert.

If you go to Halfords you can buy some plates that just make a DIN2 slot into a DIN1 slot I think. Remembering from when I wasn't old enough to drive, you used to be able to get these kinds of things from all the people advertising in the chav car magazines too!

If you're getting the factory CD Player (which is a Clarion and isn't bad at all), you're getting the 2 DIN space with rounded corners. You will not find an adaptor mask, seems no one bothers making it; I've looked for a while.
However, you will find a chinese 2 DIN "all in one" unit (DVD/CD/MP3/MPG player, TV, GPS, etc) on eBay which fits into that space, taking into account the rounded corners. They're not something to go crazy about, but they do the job.

Hello all,
Thanks for all your replies.
Vaxxi you are indeed correct that no one bothers making an adaptor mask - funny as the jimny isn't exactly an unpopular car.
Obviously there is the Clarion cenet adaptor to enable you to attach an ipod, but my understanding is that it fools the radio into thinking there is a 6cd changer so you can only use 6 preformed playlists.
One other thing I did find, which some of you may be interested in is this:
Yatour mp3 player connector which only appears to be available from aliexpress.cpm/alibaba.com
I hope this is helpful.
